The Oneida Daily Dispatch, LEGAL NOTICE NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING, ANNUAL VOTING, ELECTION OF BOARD MEMBER AND PROPOSITION OF CANASTOTA CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE CANASTOTA CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT HEREBY GIVES NOTICE that pursuant to a Resolution adopted by the Board of Education of the District on the March 11, 2014, the annual meeting of the qualified voters of said School District will be held on May 20, 2014 at two separate registration and polling places by voting machine between the hours of 12:00 Noon and 9:00 P.M for the purpose of voting upon the proposition set forth below. Such separate registration and polling places and their respective boundaries shall consist of: Election District No.1 Location of polling place: Canastota Junior Senior High School Boundary: All portions of Lenox Election Districts No.1, 2, 3 and 6, and portions of Sullivan election districts No.2 and 11 which are within the Canastota Central School District as affirmed by Madison County tax roll. Election District No.2 Location of polling place: South Side Elementary School Boundaries: Those portions of Lenox Election District No.4 and 5 located within the Canastota Central School District as defined on the Madison County tax rolls, including those portions of Lincoln Election District No.1, 2 and Smithfield Election District No.1 and Fenner Election District No.1 located within the Canastota Central School District as affirmed by the Madison County tax roll. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Budget Hearing for the inhabitants of Canastota Central School District, qualified to vote at school meeting in said district, will be held at the Roberts Street School Auditorium on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at 7:00 P.M. for the transaction of such business as is authorized by Education Law. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for the ensuing year for school purposes may be obtained by any taxpayer at each school building in the district during the 14 days immediately preceding the Annual Meeting (Budget/Trustee Vote), except Saturday, Sunday or holidays, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the register of the school district for each election district will be filed in the office of the School District Clerk and that such register will be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the District between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. on each of the five days prior to the school election on May 20, 2014, except Saturdays and Sundays. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that petitions nominating candidates for the office of members of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the District no later than Monday, April 21, 2014, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.. The following vacancies are to be filled on the Board of Education: A. A 3 year term ending June 30, 2017, presently held by Steven Stokes B. A 3 year term ending June 30, 2017, presently held by Loran Crosby Each petition must be directed to the Clerk of the District, signed by at least twenty five (25) qualified voters of the District, shall state the residence of each signer, and must state the name and residence of the candidate. The vacancies upon the Board of Education shall not be considered separate, specific offices and the candidates receiving a plurality of the votes cast respectively for the several offices mentioned above, shall be declared the winners. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that no person shall be entitled to vote at such school election whose name does not appear upon the register of the school election district in which he claims to be entitled to vote. Any person entitled to vote, may register to vote between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M., at the District Office, 120 Roberts Street through May 19, 2014. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN Madison County registration cards will be accepted by the District Clerk, at the District Office, 120 Roberts Street, Canastota, N.Y., up to five days (May 15, 2014) prior to the date of the vote on May 20, 2014. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the following Proposition will be presented: PROPOSITIONS Shall the Board of Education of the Canastota Central School District, Madison County, New York, be authorized and directed to levy a school tax upon the taxable property of the District, necessary to provide total revenues to be expended, but not exceeded for the school year 2014-2015 in the amount of $26,657,140? Shall the Board of Education of the Canastota Central School District be authorized to purchase and finance two 65-passenger school buses and one 59-passenger wheelchair school bus at an estimated cost not to exceed $348,000, including necessary furnishings, fixtures and equipment and all other costs incidental thereto and expend a total sum not to exceed $348,000, which is estimated to be the total maximum cost thereof, and levy a tax for the foregoing which is hereby voted for the foregoing in the amount of $348,000, which shall be levied and collected in annual installments in such years and in such amounts as may be determined by the Board of Education and in anticipation of the collection of such tax, bonds, notes and installment purchase contracts of the District be authorized to be issued or executed at one time, or from time to time, in the principal amount not to exceed $348,000, and a tax be voted to pay the interest and principal on said obligations when due? PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that qualified voters of the District may obtain applications for an absentee ballot from the office of the Clerk of the District. Completed applications must be received by the Clerk of the District no later than 4:00 p.m. on May 19, 2014, and must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. on May 13, 2014 if the absentee ballot is to be mailed to the voter. Completed applications received after 4:00 p.m. on May 13, 2014 will require the voter to personally appear at the office of the Clerk of the District to receive an absentee ballot. A listing of all persons to whom an absentee ballot is issued will be available for inspection by any qualified voter in the office of the Clerk of the District between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. through May 19, 2014, except on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.
